March is National Nutrition Month and March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. Since eating red and processed meats increases the risk for colorectal cancer, the monthly theme is chose is “Meat Me at Mondays”. We discussed what are red and processed meats are, the nutritional aspects of meat vs. poultry and plant-based options and how they tie into cancer. Other information on understanding labels (grass-fed, organic, etc.) and cooking tips were also provided.
